Why Ceylon, and why "true" cinnamon matters
Most cinnamon traded globally is Cassia — Cinnamomum cassia, C. burmannii, or C. loureiroi. Cassia is cheaper, has stronger flavor, and contains coumarin — a compound the European Food Safety Authority restricts due to liver toxicity concerns. True cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum, also called Ceylon cinnamon) grows almost exclusively in Sri Lanka, contains only trace coumarin, and is the only variety many EU buyers can legally use in seasonal baking products and baby food.
We source Ceylon cinnamon direct from Matale and Kandy growing districts in Sri Lanka, then process and pack at our Hyderabad facility for consolidated shipping with the rest of our spice portfolio.
Grades we ship
- Alba — the finest grade; paper-thin quills, lightest color, delicate aroma. Premium retail.
- C5 Special — very fine quills, slightly thicker than Alba. Specialty retail and gift packaging.
- C5 — standard export grade; thin quills, even color. Foodservice and retail.
- Quillings — broken pieces of C-grade quills. Industrial / grinding.
- Powder — ground from C5 or quillings; 60 mesh standard.
