Why Ceylon, and why "true" cinnamon matters

Most cinnamon traded globally is Cassia — Cinnamomum cassia, C. burmannii, or C. loureiroi. Cassia is cheaper, has stronger flavor, and contains coumarin — a compound the European Food Safety Authority restricts due to liver toxicity concerns. True cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum, also called Ceylon cinnamon) grows almost exclusively in Sri Lanka, contains only trace coumarin, and is the only variety many EU buyers can legally use in seasonal baking products and baby food.

We source Ceylon cinnamon direct from Matale and Kandy growing districts in Sri Lanka, then process and pack at our Hyderabad facility for consolidated shipping with the rest of our spice portfolio.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions from import buyers about Ceylon Cinnamon

Is this true Ceylon cinnamon or cassia?

SpiceModo supplies only true Ceylon cinnamon — Cinnamomum verum — from Matale and Kandy, Sri Lanka. NOT cassia. Ceylon cinnamon has trace coumarin, making it EU-compliant and safe for regular consumption.

Is it EU-compliant for coumarin limits?

Yes. Our Cinnamomum verum is well within EU EFSA coumarin limits. Suitable for baby food, seasonal baking products, and health supplements sold in EU markets. Coumarin reports available on request.

What grades are available?

Alba, C5 Special, and C5 export grades — in quills, quillings, and powder forms. Alba is the highest grade with the finest quill diameter.

What is the minimum order quantity?

MOQ and pricing vary by grade and form. Contact [email protected] or call +91 7337568989 for a detailed FOB/CIF quote.

Do you provide coumarin test reports?

Yes. NABL-lab coumarin content analysis reports are provided for every lot of Ceylon cinnamon — essential for EU buyers demonstrating regulatory compliance.
