Why EU buyers work with us

The EU is the world's strictest spice market. Rejections at Rotterdam or Hamburg over ethylene oxide residue, coumarin in cinnamon, or pesticide MRLs above Regulation 396/2005 limits have cost Indian exporters serious business in recent years — and cost EU buyers even more in wasted time and freight.

SpiceModo was built for this market. ETO is never used in our supply chain. Every lot destined for the EU is tested against pesticide MRLs for Germany, France, Netherlands, and UK specifically, plus aflatoxin and ochratoxin A screening on the standard EU Reg. 2023/915 categories. Ceylon cinnamon (true Cinnamomum verum, low-coumarin) is sourced directly from Sri Lanka for buyers who can't use Cassia.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions from EU import buyers

Does SpiceModo comply with EU MRL (Maximum Residue Limits) for spices?

Yes. Every lot destined for the EU is tested at NABL-accredited labs against EU Regulation 396/2005 MRL standards for pesticide residue. Test results are shared per shipment.

How does SpiceModo handle ETO (ethylene oxide) for EU buyers?

All EU-destined spices are ETO-free by default. SpiceModo issues an ETO-free declaration per batch, including for Bhut Jolokia and turmeric — categories most often flagged by EU border control.

What is the coumarin content of SpiceModo Ceylon Cinnamon?

Coumarin in our Ceylon cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum) is below 0.4 mg/kg, well within EU Regulation 1334/2008 limits. Lab reports available with each shipment.

Which EU ports does SpiceModo ship to?

Rotterdam (Netherlands), Hamburg (Germany), and Antwerp (Belgium) are our primary EU container destinations. Sea freight transit time is 18–22 days from Chennai or Nhava Sheva.

Does SpiceModo support EU organic certification?

Organic-equivalent lots are available on a project basis for select SKUs (Lakadong turmeric, Malabar pepper, Ceylon cinnamon). EU Organic certification (Reg. 2018/848) is in progress for 2026–27.
