What this is — and what it is not
Mango turmeric is Curcuma amada, a separate species from the Curcuma longa sold as culinary turmeric. The rhizome looks like ginger, cuts to a pale yellow face, and smells distinctly of raw green mango. It carries none of ginger’s pungency and is not a substitute for either crop.
It is not a curcumin line. If curcumin is the specification you are buying against, that is Lakadong turmeric, a different product on a different page. We will not put a curcumin figure against mango turmeric, because the material is not sold or priced on one.
What buyers actually specify
Mango turmeric is bought on aroma first. The raw-mango character is what the product is for, and it is the parameter most affected by how the rhizome is dried — over-dried material loses it and cannot get it back. After aroma, buyers specify moisture, fibre and the physical form: slice thickness for pickle and chutney lines, mesh for powder.
Those are the terms we agree with you on the purchase order, and what the Certificate of Analysis reports back.
Specification

Forms and packaging
- Whole dried rhizome — uncut fingers, for buyers who cut or grind to their own spec.
- Dried slices — thickness specified by you; the usual form for pickle and chutney lines.
- Powder — mesh specified by you. Ground material loses aroma faster than whole, so we agree packing and shelf-life expectations on the same order.
- Packing — agreed on the PO, with moisture-barrier options for long sea transit.
Reference standards for this line
These are the public standards and trade terms buyers write specifications against. They are reference points, not SpiceModo commitments: the figures that bind are the ones agreed on your purchase order and reported on the lot Certificate of Analysis.
| Reference | Detail |
|---|---|
| Product standard | None specific to Curcuma amada. ISO 5562 covers turmeric (Curcuma longa) and does not apply to this species — specifications are written buyer-to-seller |
| Test methods | Moisture ISO 939 · extraneous matter ISO 927 · total ash ISO 928 · acid-insoluble ash ISO 930 · volatile oil ISO 6571 |
| Grades and trade terms | No standard Indian export grade name is in general use; buyers specify on form, moisture and aroma |
| HS heading | 0910.30 (turmeric / curcuma). The Indian ITC-HS schedule carries no separate line for Curcuma amada; dried falls under 0910 30 20 and powder under 0910 30 30. The sub-line used is confirmed on your invoice |
Commercial terms
Made to order against a confirmed purchase order, so lead times are longer than our stocked lines. Price and minimum order quantity are quoted per contract on an FOB or CIF basis — there are too many variables in origin, grade, packing and freight for a list price to mean anything. Payment terms and documentation follow the same pack as our stocked lines. Ask and we will put a number and a date against your specification.
Compliance
Every lot ships with a NABL-accredited Certificate of Analysis, a Certificate of Origin and a Phytosanitary Certificate. Ethylene oxide is not used at any stage; residues are reported against the EU sum limit of 0.1 mg/kg for ethylene oxide and 2-chloroethanol under Reg. (EC) 396/2005, and against the US tolerance of 7 ppm under 40 CFR 180.151. Aflatoxin and ochratoxin A are reported against the maximum levels in Reg. (EU) 2023/915.
Common questions
Is mango turmeric the same as turmeric?
No. Mango turmeric is Curcuma amada; culinary turmeric is Curcuma longa. They are different species in the same genus, they smell and taste nothing alike, and they are not interchangeable in a formulation. If your specification says turmeric, you almost certainly mean C. longa — tell us and we will quote that instead.
Does it contain curcumin?
It is not a curcumin product and we do not sell or price it on a curcumin figure. Buyers who need a high-curcumin starting material should look at Lakadong turmeric.
What does it actually smell like?
Raw green mango — sharp and fresh rather than pungent. That aroma is the reason the crop exists commercially, and it is the first thing to check on a sample. Ask for a sample before you contract a container.
Can you supply it fresh rather than dried?
The line we quote is dried — whole rhizome, slices or powder. Fresh rhizome is a cold-chain product with different phytosanitary terms and a much shorter window; ask us and we will tell you honestly whether we can serve it for your destination.
